Want a cycling challenge?
Although most SFACC riders focus on weekday or weekend club rides, we also have a fabulous array of other cycling events surrounding us, some organised by us, some by other local clubs, and some in partnership. We keep a good list of events on our website – have a look!
Here are some of the events coming up in Kent and surrounds over the next few months.
Circuit of Kent Sportive – Sunday 4th September. Sevenoaks Prep School
This is a Kent favourite at the end of the cycling calendar, with two routes through lovely scenic countryside – 80km and 130km. It’s well run and well signposted, with mechanical support. The kicker is that it ends with a climb up One Tree Hill! (Many people walk!). Great food at the end too. Website and registration - https://www.circuitofkent.cc with discounts if you sign up by 22nd August.
Westerham CC Hill Climb - Brasted Hill - 10am, Sunday 25th September
This isn’t a long event. In fact, it’s only 650 yards! But it’s a real challenge. Although not as challenging as Mount Ventoux (which Jill had just completed in the photo above!).
Registration/ event details here.
Hill Climb Championship – Hollingbourne Hill – 10.30am, Sunday, 25 September 2022
Yes, on 25th Sept there are two separate hill climbs. Which will you pick? The Hollingbourne Hill one is usually well attended by the Club, and is run by Wigmore Cycling Club. Registration/ event details here.
Centenary Cycle Quest, SFACC – throughout September
For the month of September in this special centenary year there will be a cycle quest: an invitation to ride to places with cycling, historical or curiosity interest all around Kent. Some of these places have played a part in our club's hundred years of history and legends. On 1st September the map will go live, with questions to answer when visiting these places of interest. Visit as many or as few of these places as you choose during September, alone, with friends or on a club run – and win a prize if you get the most!
100 Mile Time Trial Championship - Sunday, 4 September 2022- 06:30 11:30
Starting just north of Hamchurch, this challenge takes you south to the Coast, out to new Romney and back. A great way to challenge yourself in our Centenary. Run by Kent Cycling Association. Registration/ event details.
The Fairies Crown Audaxes 100 & 200 Km - Sunday, 2 October 2022 - 8:00 for the 200km and 9:00 for the 100km. Ulcombe village hall
Here's your chance to enjoy the autumn colours with the San Fairy Ann CC Crown rides in 2022. They are named after the Wye Crown high above the first control on Wye Green, which was cut into the chalk of the North Downs 119 years ago to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII. The much-admired routes will still allow the 200km riders to see the sea in many places and pass those famous castles at Walmer, Dover, Sandgate, Hastings, Bodiam and Sissinghurst. Half of the 100km route is within the North Downs and High Weald areas of outstanding natural beauty. Both routes try to keep to less busy roads.
Entries open until 24th September on the Audax UK website .
KCA Reliability Trial - Sunday, 30 October 2022 – any time on the day
This is usually the last cycling event of the year – and one of the most important to the club! All of the local Kent clubs take part, and we win points for each cyclist who completes the 50km, 100km or 100 mile distance in the time allowed. Last year we came second by just one rider… so it’s our chance to regain the crown. Route details coming soon – but we can start any point on the route which goes from Marden to near Ashford, and back again.
Have fun!
