The Fast Inters has in effect been brought about by the formation of the SFA Racing Team. With the latter looking to average above 18mph it left a huge hole between the pace of the Intermediates and the A rides. A group was needed for riders who enjoy a fast pace but who do not necessarily want to race, and hence the Fast Inters has appeared.
The by-product of this is that there is now a useful stepping stone for those who want to progress to the A ride; a couple of riders have already gone through our ranks and are now established with the race group. We have several members who have ridden with the A ride before, and this enables us to use the Time Trial method of rotating the lead to keep the pace high.
Anyone who wants to lead a ride can do so. Usually a leader stays within the front five of the group to help set the pace and give directions. Leaders are encouraged to find new venues and it doesn’t matter where they are or what the terrain is like; the only stipulation is that the longer rides are flagged up well in advance.
Anyone is welcome to join us. If you are stepping up from a slower group then the first time may be difficult, but that is the hardest part done. Just keep coming back and things will get easier within a few weeks.
As for favourite cafe stops, the most visited have been Brogdale and Hilden Golf Centre; both routes offer a nice combination of hills and fast stretches and the cafes have large outdoor seating areas.
