Fairies Autumn Audaxes
On Sunday 1st of September from the Headquarter at Linton Village Hall
Although 1 September is the first day of autumn, the 71 starters on the Fairies Autumn Rides had glorious weather, if anything, a bit too hot, especially for those doing the 150 and 200km routes, which explore the sharp hills and descents of East Sussex. The longest route took riders to the seaside at Pevensey Bay, where invading Sunday day trippers carried on the tradition of William the Conqueror. However, he would not have had chocolate-covered ice creams as good as ours.
There were many more ups and downs through delightful lanes towards the splendid Hub Café in Wye, where Jacqui Smith was waiting to stamp cards. Then, a trek along the Pilgrims Way and Greensand Ridge back to home-made gorgeous green vegetable soup and super sausage casserole at Linton village hall.
Special thanks also go to David Winslade and Andy Taylor Vebel for helping on the day and to all the riders for complimenting the routes.
