48 The Roy Manser Memorial 10 Mile Time Trial Trophy
Awarded annually to the fastest Club member in the Club Open 10 mile Time Trial.
Trophy history:
The Roy Manser Memorial was presented in 2016 in memory of Roy Manser, who joined the club in 1950
Roy holds a special place in club history. His racing achievements are too numerous to cover here. He won just about everything he entered and often became the outright owner of many prestigious cups. He was 6th in the national BBAR competition in 1962. In 1964, he almost took the British 50-mile TT record on a course near Harrogate in Yorkshire. Many club members will remember that Roy was exceedingly generous in his support of both the club and individual members.
Roy was a fantastic metal worker, welder, and bike builder. He built and maintained many bikes for club members, including our club racing tandem. He also built our four club rollers, which have been used in many roller competition events over the years.
He and Pam ran many of our club's Open events, giving back to the club by timekeeping and marshalling. Roy also kept a rewarding vegetable garden.
Roy Manser passed away in 2015, and the club named the club open 10 mile trophy in his honour: The Roy Manser memorial 10 mile trophy.
