The Fairies Summer Audaxes

Jamie Evans in the spotlight on the aptly named Summer Sunrise 300km audax on 16 June.  Starting at Bethersden at two in the morning, the riders did not have long to wait for the uplifting sight of the dawn breaking high above.

 The Summer Sunrise is the longest of the five San Fairy Ann CC audax rides making up this event, which has been running since 2004.  75 riders enjoyed a trip to many parts of Kent, including the seaside at Dungeness and Hythe, the Greensand ridge, the Low Weald and, for some, the North Downs.  On minor roads where possible everyone seemed to come back smiling, perhaps anticipating the legendary home made soup and cakes.
