It’s YOUR club - so what do YOU want to do?
I hope you’ve all voted for your Board, President, Vice President and on a few key questions. If not, you’ve still got until Friday 23rd September using the unique link sent to you on 31st August by noreply@limesurvey.org. It’s your club, so you chose who runs us, and what we do.
Your outgoing Board will be presenting to members on what we’ve been up to, and discussing the year ahead at the AGM on Sat 24th Sept, at Coxheath Village Hall, Small Hall, Stockett Ln, Coxheath, Maidstone ME17 4PT from 4pm (so you’ve got time to go on a ride, shower and come back out!). We’ve written a report of what we’ve been up to, including our 2021 accounts - which you can see here. We will also have a club clothing stand, so you can test the Primal kit for size before ordering, and have a look at the fabulous winter jackets.
This is the time to ask - what do you want from your club? Should we focus more on getting kids involved? Run more cycling events? Run rides on different days? Do more track riding? Hold more social events?
As I’ve said so many times before, we are run by volunteers for the membership. We’ve got to 100 years old being run by members. And one theme from our 100 year history is that every Board has said ‘there is so much more we could do… if only we had the resource to do it’. Our aspirations can only be met by our resources. As a good example, we can only run our Sportive if there are people to organise it, staff it on the day, put signs up and take them down again… as well as ride it. And if no-one is willing to lead something, it won’t happen, however good an idea it is.
Throughout the club’s history, our club has done many things because members were passionate about them. Our racing efforts have waxed and waned according to how much time people had to lead them. We’ve run events to get kids into cycling in the past, because people were passionate about the subject, often because they had kids of their own. Many of the things we run today are because people are keen to make them happen, whether getting new members into the club through ‘try it out’ rides, improving our website because the old one was just plain irritating, or renegotiating our club kit because the old supplier wasn’t good enough!
So what are YOU passionate about? When you think of San Fairy Ann CC, what would you like us to do? Whatever it is, we can support you. Our club is only what we all make it. So let’s make it even better. Please do drop me a reply, or come and chat at the AGM about how you can get involved, in any small way. Our club will be what we ALL make it.
