Track Racing

What we do

Members of the club train at the iconic indoor velodrome in the Olympic park in east London (Lee Valley) and the historic outdoor track at Herne Hill in south-east London. We also race at the velodromes in Newport (S. Wales), Derby and Manchester, taking part in the local league, British Cycling National Masters Championships, and British Masters Cycle Racing National championships and Omniums. We have some experienced and successful track riders in the club, keen to pass on the benefit of their experience to newcomers. Geoff and Barbara Wiles are both UCI Masters World champions on the track, and have numerous National titles between them. Geoff is also a British Cycling track coach.

All members are encouraged to experience riding on the track, even if they have no intention of racing. Not only is it great fun, but riding a fixed wheel bicycle improves pedalling technique and speed control. Riding on the track with an experienced coach to advise develops group riding skills. All these skills are just as important for club rides and sportives as for races.

We run occasional track skills sessions for club members, and both Herne Hill and Lee Valley have their own training programmes to gain track accreditation, open to the public from beginners upwards and have bikes for hire. See their websites for details:
