Wrotham to Gravesend, via a bumpy Nationalcycle route 1

On a lovely morning ,a group of 7 with Richard leading set off up Wrotham Hill and headed for Gravesend Promenade cafe, with Darren salivating about the prospect of his fish finger and onion sandwich.Going through the Fawkham valley Road,to Southfleet and through the cyclo Park, onto Shorne and Lower Higham.Richard then decided to take the National Cycle route 1 to the cafe. Not a good decision,as the route is okay for hybrid/off road bikes, but certainly not suited to road bikes, but everyone got through unscathed. The approach to the river front did not improve with  the awful rubbish around the factories.Probably the very worst section of the entire network.Arriving at the cafe,Darren received the very sad news, that they had just sold their last fish fingers before we arrived. Gutted he was,so it had to be scampi instead. It was a more direct route return, seeing the riders climbing basically all the way ,firstly up Thong Lane,to Cobham and taking  the A227, through Meopham Culverstone Green and Fairseat to the finish.A distance of 36.5 miles at about 12.5 mph and roughly 1700 ft ascents

I must admit I was a tad disappointed by the lack of fishfingers but even with the dodgy section of nc1 was still a great route and I enjoyed the gravel alongside the canal. Thank you Richard for another great route and great company 😊
